Aizu Sights



The University of Aizu specializes in Computer Science education, both hardware and software, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Approximately 40% of all professors come from overseas, including countries such as the United States, Russia, China, India, New Zealand, and Canada. The Center for Language Research was established in 1993 to foster research in English for Specific Purposes with special emphasis on the English needed for study and work in the fields of computer science and computer engineering.

The University of Aizu is officially bilingual and all business meetings and correspondence are interpreted and translated in both Japanese and English. English language education is also an important aspect of the University of Aizu. Not only do students enroll in English courses throughout their undergraduate programs, but many of their computer science courses are taught in English. Undergraduate students are required to write a graduation thesis in English. The university has international students at the masters and doctoral levels who carry out their work in English.

The university is known for its open access to computers; there is a 1:1 ratio of computers to students, and all students have 24-hour on-site computer and wireless internet access.
